Faith Mountain Baptist Church of Lexington, Virginia, is prayerfully seeking a Pastor or Bi-vocational Pastor who has been called to the ministry as stated in 1 Peter 5:2-4.  The Pastor shall be the spiritual leader of the church and is responsible to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, engage in pastoral care and provide administrative leadership in all areas of church life.  He shall be able to lead collaboratively with the deacons in order to provide opportunities for worship, Bible study and spiritual growth.  The Pastor is expected to stand firm for the sanctity of human life, the sacredness of marriage between one man and one woman and the fundamental freedom to express one's beliefs in the public arena. The Pastor shall give himself to the ministry of the Word of God and the leadership of the congregation.  He shall be responsible for the oversight of the church as an under-shepherd to minister to the congregation and community.  He will faithfully conduct the public services and ordinances of the church such as baby dedications, baptisms, weddings, communion, funerals and others as necessary.  

Qualifications

1.  The Pastor shall be a duly ordained Minister of the Gospel in fellowship and sympathy with the SBC whose Christian character and qualifications fit him for the office of Pastor of the Church according to John 10:1-5 and Titus 1:5-9. 

2.  Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree and graduate of an accredited seminary or divinity school (or equivalent ministry experience). 

3. Able to communicate and nurture the congregation in spiritual growth toward Christlike character. 

4. Has a vision and experience in building and developing strong Christian education programs for children, youth and families.

5. Meets the Biblical qualifications stated in I Timothy 3:1-7.  

Key Responsibilities

  1. Present well organized Bible based sermons that edify, challenge and encourage the church as well as promote the true worship of God.
  2. Lead the congregation to follow the Great Commission to reach the lost and unchurched, fostering biblical, emotional, social and spiritual growth.
  3. Disciple the congregation through Bible study with the aim of developing Christian maturity and depth of Biblical understanding with life applications.
  4. Provide care and counseling for planned life events (marital counseling, parental counseling) and during times of personal struggle or crisis.
  5. Provide guidance, encouragement and oversight to the Deacons and church committees in the development and implementation of ministry and mission programs. 

About the Area

Rockbridge County is located in Virginia's historic Blue Ridge mountains approximately one hour north of Roanoke, one hour south of Charlottesville and two hours from the state capital of Richmond.  The county is home to the Virginia Military Institute, Washington and Lee University, Mountain Gateway Community College, six elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools plus Rockbridge Christian Academy and Castle Christian School. Key attractions in the area include historic downtown Lexington, the Blue Ridge Parkway, our nationally recognized Chessie Nature Trail, the Maury and James River valleys, the Appalachian Trail, the Washington and Jefferson National Forests and the Natural Bridge State Park.  Camping, canoe/kayaking, hiking, hunting and fishing are among the most popular local activities along with our local sporting events in our schools and universities. 

God has blessed our church with opportunities to share God's word in our community through outreach ministries such as Vacation Bible School, Community Fall Fesitival, VMI Cadet Ministry, Ladies Card Ministry, weekly children's messages and Children's Church, Back to School Backpacks, Children's Christmas programs, Christmas Parade float and Operation Christmas Child.  We are excited to see what God has planned for Faith Mountain Baptist Church as we await the Pastor He's chosen for us.
