Faith Mountian Baptist Chuch of Lexington, VA is prayerfully seeking the man God is calling to be our next Pastor. We are a traditional Southern Baptist Church seeking growth and deeper discipleship with an average attendance of 45 adults and 20 children in worship. Faith Mountain was established in it's current location in 2002 in the rural city of Lexington, VA which is the County Seat of Rockbridge County located in Virginia's scenic Shenandoah Valley region.
Purpose: The Pastor is the spiritual leader of the chruch and is responsible to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to teach Biblical scripture, engage in pastoral care, and provide administrative leadership in all areas of church life and function. He should be able to lead collaboratively with deacons and the church staff to provide opportunities for members and guests to worship, be discipled toward growth in their walk of faith and that they may impact their communities with gospel centered lives. Candidates are expected to stand firm for the sanctity of human life, the sacredness of marriage between one man and one woman and the fundamental freedom to express our faith in the public arena.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited seminary or divinity school (or equivalent ministry experience)
- Ordained and licensed Southern Baptist Minister
- Supports the Baptist Faith and Message (version 2000)
- At least three years experience as a Senior Pastor
- Experience in managing staff
- Possess Biblical qualifications as stated in I Timothy 3:1-7
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Proficiency in computer and technology skills including use of social media.
- Possess strong leadership and strategic thinking capabilities
- Possess proven character, intergrity while maintaining vital personal relationship with the Lord through daily prayer and Bible study as well as having proper priorities at home with family and exhibiting an example of a Godly balanced life.
Key Responsibilities:
- As a preacher/teacher present well organized, Bible based sermons and lessons on Sunday and Wednesday that edify, challenge, and encourage the church as well as promote the passionate worship of God. Knowledge and desire to preach/teach the entire Bible from Genesis through Revelation.
- Lead the congregation to follow the Great Commission to reach the lost and unchurched, fostering biblical, emotional, social and spiritual growth. Disciple the congregation through Bible study with the aim to develop Christian maturity and depth of Biblical understanding with life applications.
- Uphold with integreity the doctrines, the constitution and by laws of Faith Mountain Baptist Church.
- Provide pastoral care by visiting the sick, elderly, and bereaved. Maintain contact with the church family while loving and affirming persons and families within the fellowship. Be available for emergencies as needed. The pastor shall, with the deacons, oversee the pastoral care of church members.
- Provide care and confidential counsel to members and non-members in planned life events (marital counseling, parental counseling) and moments of personal struggle or crisis.
- Administer the ordinances of the church.
- Perform weddings, baby dedications, funerals, baptisms as required.
- Ensure church maintains focus on providing ministry and initiatives that involve members of every generation.
- Provide guidance and oversight to the Deacons, all church committees and organizations as a non-voting ex officio member in the development and implementation of programs of ministry and mission. Effectively encourage persons, programs and ministries of the church family.
- Provide primary oversight and direction of the church office overseeing the church calendar, representing the church to visitors and other persons who contact the church, serving in other reasonable activities relative to the church office.
- Provide a plan for a qualified person to conduct services in his absence and maintain a succession plan for key leaders.
About the area: Rockbridge County is located in Virginia's pristine and historic Shenandoah Valley approximately one hour north of Roanoke, on hour south of Charlottesville and two hours from the state capital in Richmond. The county is home to several colleges and universities, most notably Washington and Lee University and the Virginia Military Institute. In addition, the county has two high schools and four middle schools. With a population of 22,650, the area leans politically conservative and contains a large number of retirees and college age students. The majority of people are employed in manufacturing, agriculture, building trades and education to include employment at our institutions of higher education. Key attractions in the area include historic downtown Lexington, the Blue Ridge Parkway, our nationally recognized Chessie Trail, the Maury and James River valleys, the Appalachain Trail, the Washington and Jefferson National Forests and numerous hisoric sites such as Natural Bridge and the Stonewall Jackson House. Camping, fishing, canoe/kayaking, hiking, hunting and fishing are among the most popular local activities along with the typical lineup of youth, scholastic and intercollegiate sports contests.
Congregation: Specifically our congregation consists primarily of blue collar households and the preponderance are natives or longtime residents of Virginia and/or the local area. Congregants typically attend church 3-4 times per month and live within 30 miles of the church. We also have an active college/cadet ministry where we host approximately 15-20 VMI Cadets and students per week during the academic year (SEP-MAY)
