The Director of Music serves as an integral part of the Beulah Baptist Church staff team. Under the direction of the Senior Pastor, The Director of Music will engage all age levels in a variety of music experiences and education while promoting music as an important and meaningful part of corporate and personal worship. Music serves as a vital part of the worship and life of a New Testament Church. It is a vehicle for expressing the foundation and joys of faith, and a key factor in every aspect of church community, touching the deepest spiritual needs of the congregation. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive music ministry strategy for the church. The successful candidate must possess knowledge and experience in instrumentation, vocals, and a clear understanding of the trends surrounding successful music strategy implementation in the church setting. The successful candidate must be able to work, both, independently and as part of a team with strong coordination and organizational skills to oversee a multi-dynamic, largely volunteer, music team.
The successful candidate will oversee, work in conjunction with, and utilize, the Beulah Baptist Church Music Committee as a sounding board and active ministry team to accomplish the goals, implementation, and vision of the comprehensive music program at Beulah Baptist Church.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, coordinate, and evaluate a comprehensive music program inclusive of all age groups in the church.
- Under the direction of the Senior Pastor, and in consultation with church staff, plan the Sunday Morning; Sunday Night, Wednesday Night services as well as all special services and church programming as deemed necessary by the Senior Pastor.
- Lead, direct, and coordinate all congregational music.
- Lead, direct, and coordinate all music teams, including but not limited to:
- Children’s Choirs
- Adult Choir
- Handbell Choir
- Praise Team
- Praise Band
- Special Music
- Programming Music (i.e. VBS; Good News Club; etc…)
- All others as deemed necessary by the Senior Pastor
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers in the Music Ministry
- Seek opportunities for church music programs to go beyond the church walls into the community, including church planned outreach or service events and activities of local communities or organizations.
- Supervise the church organist, pianist, and all other staff music ministry support positions.
- While this position does not oversee the audio and video ministry teams, it is vital that this position works in conjunction with the audio and video team leadership under the direction of the Senior Pastor.
- Prepare and recommend an annual music ministry budget to the church Finance Committee.
- Manage the music ministry budget as approved and submit required reports, estimates and requests in accordance with church policies.
- Select and purchase all needed music, equipment and supplies according to the music budget and relevant church polices.
- Supervise, in conjunction with the Music Committee, the use and maintenance of music equipment and supplies including but not limited to:
- Hymnals
- Robes and Costumes
- Musical Instruments
- Music Library
- Coordinate all music activities, projects, and programs.
- Coordinate the performance schedules of music groups and individuals for church functions, including practices.
- Keep informed on current music methods, materials, promotion and administration, utilizing where appropriate.
- Under the direction of the Senior Pastor support all programs and ministry teams within the church.
- Attend staff meetings on a regular basis.
- Attend services, activities, and events of the church on a regular basis and at the direction of the Senior Pastor.
- Be consistent in Christian responsibilities to personal character and relationships.
- Ensure consistent conduct that never causes embarrassment to the Lord, The Kingdom of God, or Beulah Baptist Church.
- Follow all polices, procedures, and protocols of Beulah Baptist Church, at the direction and supervision of the Senior Pastor.
- Regularly attend church business meetings, providing accurate reports on the music program.
- All other duties as deemed necessary, and assigned, by the Senior Pastor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position supervises all volunteer workers and musicians within the music ministry.
This position supervises paid musicians including but not limited to the following:
- Pianist
- Organist
- All other paid musicians employed at, or contracted by, Beulah Baptist Church
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
- Be a Born Again believer in Jesus Christ
- Have received a calling by God to serve in a Christian Ministry for Music.
- Be spiritually mature, maintaining personal Bible Study and Prayer.
- Possess gifts and abilities in music.
- Ability to work with and support the staff and members of the congregation in the areas of music.
- Skilled musician with knowledge of vocal and instrumental techniques.
- Ability to play at least 1 musical instrument.
- Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to speak confidently before a group.
- Excellent leadership, administrative, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to use computer software.
- Degree from and accredited college or university. (Music Degree and/or Seminary Preferred)
- Discretion and confidentiality in all matters related to church members and church business required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment
The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is primarily indoors in an office setting and on stage before a crowd.
Driving Requirements
- This position may require use of a ministry vehicle
