Claremont Baptist Church (CBC) is a small, rural church in Surry County, Virginia, approximately one hour southeast of Richmond. We are committed to the authority and sufficiency of God’s Word and Gospel in shaping our church, our ministries, and our lives. Claremont Baptist Church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.

Position Overview

The Pastor reports to the Deacons of the church. He primarily oversees the church's spiritual, strategic, and operational needs, working closely with the Deacons. His duties include teaching Scripture, ministering to the congregation, implementing the vision, and directing missions and outreach ministries. We are looking for a Pastor to work in the local missionary environment of the community, passionately following Christ’s Great Commission.

Doctrine and Ministering

• He must agree with and embrace, publicly and privately, the CBC doctrinal statement, membership covenant, and vision statement.
• He must embrace CBC’s views of reformed theology, baptism by immersion, complementarianism, understanding of marriage, and congregationalism (Deacon led) form of governance.
• He must exhibit a desire to work with a congregation from varied church backgrounds while faithfully articulating a biblical vision for Christian life and ministry.
• Hold a bachelor’s degree in theology or equivalent (an evangelical institution is preferred but not required. The candidate may be in the final year of study).
• Demonstrate a commitment to expository preaching.

 Job Description

• Preaching – Preaches Sunday mornings with expositional, Spirit-led preaching of the gospel
• Pastoral care/spiritual care – provides direct pastoral and spiritual care and counseling within the congregation.
• Strategic Church leadership – works with the Deacons to further develop and implement/imbed the vision for the church into the church’s culture
• Conducts weddings, funerals and provides for the observances of the church ordinances or delegates to others as appropriate
• Manage and direct overall church ministry/evangelism initiatives and programs.
  • In concert with the Deacons and voluntary staff, build a practical methodology for translating church vision and strategy into actionable ministries
  • Coordinate and integrate overall efforts of church ministries
  • Make recommendations relating to the annual budget to be reflective of the church’s vision
  • Promote a congregational culture that demonstrates harmony, honesty, and servant-leadership.
