Overview

We are a Christ-centered, rural church nestled in the heart of Virginia, seeking a pastor who exemplifies the character, convictions, and calling described in the book of Titus. This individual will be a shepherd to our multi-generational congregation and a servant-leader in our community. Rooted in sound doctrine and compassionate leadership, the ideal candidate will shepherd the church to love God supremely and to love our neighbors.

 

Biblical Character (Titus 1:6–8)

The pastor will:

- Be above reproach, demonstrating integrity in personal and public life

- If married, be faithful to their spouse, committed to family, and able to lead their household well

- Avoid arrogance, quick temper, addiction, or greed

- Be hospitable, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined

- Be a lover of what is good

 

Doctrinal Soundness & Teaching (Titus 1:9, 2:1)

The pastor must:

- Hold firmly to sound doctrine, in accordance with God’s Word

- Be able to encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it

- Teach with clarity and compassion, showing how God’s Word applies to daily life

- Equip men and women of all ages to live godly lives, mentoring older members to guide younger generations (Titus 2)

 

Pastoral Responsibilities

- Preaching & Teaching: Serve as lead pastor to oversee the preaching of God’s Word in our weekly worship. Ensuring that messages are rooted in Scripture, with practical application.

- Shepherding & Visitation: Regularly connect with members, with special attention to shut-ins and those at risk of isolation–offering prayer, encouragement, and presence

- Community Engagement: Be visible and active, fostering trust and building bridges with the wider community

- Service to Membership: Willingness to oversee and/or officiate special services, such as weddings, funerals, etc. 

- Leadership & Discipleship: Equip leaders within the church, promoting spiritual maturity and a sense of shared responsibility, service in ministry, and support of the church’s testimony

 

Contextual Awareness

- Understand the history of the area and local community

- Appreciate the strengths and challenges of rural life—economic limitations, resilience, and deep-rooted faith

 

Preferred Qualifications

- A calling affirmed by both internal conviction and external recognition

- Theological training 

- Previous ministry experience

- Ordained and/or licensed minister, or qualified to be such on installation.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
