Pastor

Craig Valley Baptist Church (CVBC) is seeking a full-time or bi-vocational pastor to shepherd our small but vibrant country church in rural New Castle, VA.  The church began as Craig Valley Mission Church in 1962, and was established as CVBC in 1976. Currently we have 107 members, with 50-60 in attendence each Sunday.  We have been without a pastor for several years but have continued to thrive by God's grace through solid lay leadership and pulpit supply.  However, we need a pastor of our own to shepherd us, help us to continue to grow spiritually, and help us expand our outreach to the local community.  Our budget is limited, but we trust that God has a special man that He is preparing to serve as our pastor and help us to grow.

Our Position Description is as follows:

Summary:  The Pastor shall be responsible for shepherding Craig Valley Baptist Church (CVBC) as a New Testament church. The Pastor is the spiritual leader of the church, and shall lead the church congregation, ministries, and staff as a servant-leader in the performance of their ministries.

Responsibilities and Duties:

1. The Pastor shall be the primary preacher of the Word of God at CVBC.
2. The Pastor shall lead or delegate the leadership of congregational worship services.
3. The Pastor shall provide pastoral counseling to the congregation and others within the community.
4. The Pastor shall lead the pastoral ministries, working with the deacons, ministry heads, and the church staff, to:
   1. Proclaim the Gospel in CVBC and the community;
   2. Provide pastoral care of CVBC members and others within the community;
   3. Develop a vision for CVBC and its’ mission in the community;
   4. Provide training to new members as needed;
   5. Contact new members and visitors as needed.
5. The Pastor shall seek to train and equip the congregation for performing missions and ministries to the local community.
6. The Pastor shall counsel with and assist in training deacons for their service within the church and community.
7. The Pastor shall participate in committees and church ministries and provide input as appropriate.
8. The Pastor shall be available for leading communion and performing baptisms, weddings, and funerals.
9. The Pastor shall direct the administrative duties of the church office and secretary and provide supervision to the secretary and any other paid staff.
10. The Pastor shall represent CVBC at the Roanoke Valley Baptist Association and the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia, attending regular meetings and informing the congregation of any relevant initiatives or issues.
11. The Pastor shall represent CVBC within the community and among the local churches.

Qualifications:

1. The Pastor shall meet the requirements for “overseer” as defined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7.
2. The Pastor shall have demonstrated wisdom and sound judgement in his family life, relationships, finances, business, and ministry.
3. The Pastor shall have a high school diploma or GED as a minimum, and a solid theological understanding of the Word of God.
4. The Pastor shall have demonstrated leadership skills via past ministry, business, or other experiences.
5. The Pastor shall have a demonstrated ability for preaching and teaching the Word of God.
6. The Pastor must be willing to re-locate to Craig County or surrounding area.
