Director/Pastor of Sending & Discipleship Job Description

As a member of the Movement Church staff team, the Pastor of Sending exists to advance the overall health, vision, and mission of the church by cultivating a culture where every person lives as one who is sent. This role champions the development of leaders and the multiplication of discipleship groups as the primary pathway for forming disciples who live on mission—locally and globally. Rooted in the conviction that the church is a sent people, the Director/Pastor of Sending equips individuals to perceive their everyday lives—where they live, work, and socialize—as their primary mission field.

This role facilitates Movement Church's full expression as a sending church—one that not only sends individuals out weekly but also identifies, develops, and deploys leaders for intentional local and global mission. The Pastor of Sending ensures that the church consistently reinforces and celebrates its sent identity while building clear pathways to assess, equip, and care for those called to serve both locally and globally.

Key Responsibilities

Discipleship Group Leadership & Leader Development

• Champion discipleship groups as the central environment for spiritual formation, leadership development, and pastoral care.
• Invest significant time in identifying, developing, coaching, and multiplying group leaders.
• Help manage and build a clear leadership pipeline, from new leaders to seasoned multipliers.
• Personally disciple and mentor emerging leaders, creating a culture of reproducible leadership development.
• Oversee the discipleship group system, including semester rhythms, curriculum strategy, and leadership training environments.
• Develop systems for leader multiplication, group health, and new group launches.
• Ensure group environments consistently produce:
  • Biblical maturity
  • Authentic community
  • Missional living
  • Leadership reproduction
• Align group life with Sunday teaching and overall church vision.

Missional Strategy & Integration

• Provide leadership and development for Movement Church’s mission strategy in partnership with the elder team. Oversee global and local mission teams.
• Ensure that discipleship naturally leads to mission, integrating outreach into group life.
• Develop clear pathways for individuals to engage in local outreach and global missions.
• Oversee the sending process for mission candidates, including assessment, equipping, and commissioning.
• Lead short-term mission trip strategy and execution.
• Cultivate storytelling and communication that keep the church engaged in mission.

Partnerships & Church Engagement

• Build and maintain strategic local and global ministry partnerships.
• Strengthen Movement Church’s culture of “every person on mission.”
• Increase mission awareness through teaching, resources, and group integration.
• Manage missions budget and resource allocation.
